Chase Young suffers torn ACL, out for the season

The Washington Football Team grabbed an impressive Week 10 win over the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the team failed to get through the contest unscathed as second-year defensive end Chase Young suffered a season-ending torn ACL.

The injury occurred in the second quarter as he attempted to apply pressure on Tom Brady but went down in significant pain. His absence leaves a substantial void along Washington’s defensive line.

“It’s definitely sad,” Washington defensive tackle Jonathan Allen said via ESPN. “It’s going to be tough, but knowing Chase’s personality, knowing the way he works and the kind of guy he is, he’ll come back stronger than ever.”

Chase Young is expected to undergo surgery to repair the ailment. The Ohio State product struggled to find his footing this season as he had just 1.5 sacks. It’s a fry cry from his strong showing in his rookie campaign, where he recorded 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.

The 22-year-old’s production dropped off drastically in his second year, as the injury puts a stamp on the disappointing campaign. His lack of production became noticeable as he struggled to create pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Washington will move forward without one of their key defensive pieces. The team is hoping to make a push toward a wildcard berth, currently holding a 3-6 record through the first 10 weeks.

Washington holds a tough uphill battle ahead to vie for the playoffs. They still hold matchups against the Dallas Cowboys (twice), Las Vegas Raiders, and Philadelphia Eagles (twice).
