Chiefs coach Andy Reid rules out Patrick Mahomes for Week 8

The Kansas City Chiefs saw their season take a drastic turn in Week 7 with superstar quarterback and reigning NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes, going down with what appeared to be a season-ending knee injury.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, Mahomes’ season may not be over as he was already back on the practice field this week. However, the All-Pro quarterback won’t be able to play in Week 8 when Kansas City goes head-to-head with the Green Bay Packers in a potential Super Bowl preview. Head coach Andy Reid has officially ruled out his starting quarterback for this matchup, according to Chiefs reporter BJ Kissell.

With Mahomes on the shelf for Sunday’s game against the Packers, Reid and company will go with Matt Moore, who replaced Mahomes last week when he went down with the knee injury. Although Moore didn’t have a great performance against the Denver Broncos after taking over for Mahomes, the team was still able to come out with the win against the division rivals with relative ease mainly due to the defense stepping up at the right time.

As for Mahomes’ long-term status, it seems that he’ll return much sooner than anticipated, but it still remains to be seen whether that’ll be a few weeks or a month or more. Obviously, the team doesn’t want to risk further injury to their face of the franchise, but they could see their playoff hopes disappear without the superstar under center.
