Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes promises to involve everyone in ‘very deep receiving room’

The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into the offseason program hoping to build toward another deep playoff run toward Super Bowl contention.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have a bit of a different group of receiving talent to throw to in 2022. The former league MVP voiced that he’s excited to play with the new collection of talent that still features some familiar faces.

“That’s what you’re going to see with this offense this year,” Mahomes said Thursday via ESPN. “It’s going to be everybody. It’s not all going to be one guy. Obviously [Travis Kelce] is still going to get a lot of completions, a lot of yards but the whole receiving room is going to have big days and that can be something we use to our advantage.

“It’s a very deep receiving room. It’s hard to tell which guys are going to make it because we’ve got so many good receivers. That’s what you want. You want that competition. You want guys competing every single day to make the roster because they’re going to help us in the end.”

Kansas City will miss Tyreek Hill’s presence in the passing game but added several key pieces through free agency such as Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster to provide stability.

Meanwhile, Travis Kelce remains Mahomes’ primary receiving option while Josh Gordon and Mecole Hardman figure to garner bigger roles. The Chiefs will also rely on running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Ronald Jones to lead their running game to provide a balanced offensive attack.

The Chiefs’ success in the 2022 campaign will lie on Mahomes’ shoulders.
