“The timetable for Patrick Mahomes to participate in team drills after his offseason turf toe surgery has been accelerated, as the quarterback will take part when the Chiefs begin offseason practice next week, a source confirmed to ESPN.”

Mahomes may not handle the full load of starter’s snaps next week. Although he’s in line to do a sizable amount.

It’s a significant step forward as Mahomes is well ahead of the initial timetable. The Chiefs anticipated the star quarterback would be ready for training camp next month, but he’s far exceeded that.

Although Mahomes will be back sooner than expected, Kansas City will monitor and handle the situation carefully. The franchise wants to avoid any setbacks that could prevent him from being fully healthy to start the 2021 season.

The foot surgery marks the first operation of his NFL career, as his dislocated kneecap in the 2019 campaign didn’t require surgery.

The Chiefs are pinned as an early Super Bowl favorite, which lies primarily behind Mahomes’ play. The front office has drastically improved its offensive line behind a busy offseason.

Mahomes will have every opportunity to put together another MVP-caliber campaign.
