Chiefs WR JuJu Smith-Schuster set to miss matchup vs. Chargers

The Chiefs are sitting comfortably atop the AFC West heading into Week 11 action against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs go into the contest short-handed in the passing game due to JuJu Smith-Schuster’s concussion. He has missed practice all week after suffering the injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Smith-Schuster has been a highly reliable option in his first campaign with the Chiefs. So far he has 46 receptions for 615 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He has notched two games north of 100 receiving yards, and six outings with at least five receptions.

His absence will put more responsibility on the shoulders of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, and Travis Kelce to be the primary receiving options. Mahomes has primarily relied on Kelce as the go-to factor, but he may spread the ball around to help provide balance to the passing game.

Mahomes is amid another impressive campaign, leading the league with 2,936 passing yards and 25 touchdown passes while ranking second with a 78.7 quarterback rating. He is on pace to throw a career-best and NFL single-season record with 5,546 passing yards along with 47 touchdown passes.

In the Chiefs’ first meeting this season in Week 2 action, Mahomes completed 24-of-35 passes for 235 passing yards and two touchdowns with a 106.2 passer rating. He will need to replicate much of the same offensive success if Kansas City hopes to get past Los Angeles, who is coming off a disappointing Sunday night loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
