Chiefs WR Marquise Brown will miss season opener vs. Ravens
One of the big-splash moves the Kansas City Chiefs made this past offseason was acquiring speedy wide receiver Marquise Brown.
However, Brown hasn’t been able to stay on the field through training camp and preseason, missing the last few weeks due to a separated shoulder.
Head coach Andy Reid has announced that Brown will not play in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.

“Hollywood won’t be back this week and we’ll just see how it goes [from there],” Reid said via ESPN. “But the kid’s amazing. I mean, his progress has been incredible, but I wouldn’t predict him being there this week.”
His status for the game shouldn’t be as surprising, given that the team didn’t play in the preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns.
The Chiefs are expected to lean on Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and rookie Xavier Worthy in the passing game. Meanwhile, recent offseason signee JuJu Smith-Schuster should quickly factor into the equation.

“He looks great right now and he jumped right back in and had some good practices for us,” Reid said of Smith-Schuster. “So it’s just a matter of him getting banged around a little bit. … He’ll get all that as the season goes, but it’s good to have him back in the mix there, for sure.”
Kansas City has yet to designate a return date for Brown, but that frame should be in the early portions of the season. Last season, he posted 51 catches for 574 receiving yards and four touchdowns with the Arizona Cardinals.
