Colts Take Firm Stance on Keenan Allen Following DUI Arrest

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen found himself in trouble off the field after being arrested for a DUI on Sunday morning.

Despite that, the Indianapolis Colts are not wavering in their stance on his status for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 13.

General manager Chris Ballard referenced Allen’s proven resume and character over his NFL career, which have given him enough confidence to move forward with him on the field.

“Fourteen years in the league and no issues,” Ballard said via ESPN. “Decorated career, decorated teammate. As you know, our relationship with Philip Rivers, I know Philip holds him in extremely high regard. And [Steichen] was with him. And after you meet his mom and dad, who are just amazing people, we feel good about who he is. Unequivocally feel good about who Keenan Allen is.”

Although the Colts are expecting Allen to play in the season opener, the off-the-field legal issue will likely lead to some form of NFL punishment, including a suspension.

In the meantime, Indianapolis is expecting Allen to play a significant role in the passing game as one of the team’s primary targets. With Alec Pierce still working his way through an ankle injury, the Colts will lean on Allen to step into a prominent spot in the offensive game plan.

He remains a productive passing game factor, posting 81 receptions on 122 targets for 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns while playing in all 17 regular-season games for the Los Angeles Chargers last year.
