According to ESPN, Daniels may have to miss Week 3’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders due to a knee injury he sustained in Week 2’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels sprained his left knee Thursday, leaving his status for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders in doubt, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
Apparently, Daniels limped out of Lambeau Field after the Commanders lost to the Packers, which isn’t a great sign with the season just getting underway.
Daniels, last season’s offensive rookie of the year, injured his knee in Thursday’s 27-18 loss at Green Bay. He had a large ice pack on his left knee after the game and walked with a limp out of the building. A day later he underwent an MRI, which revealed no major damage, a source with knowledge of the situation said.
If Daniels is ultimately ruled out against the Raiders in Week 3, the Commanders will turn to veteran backup Marcus Mariota to shoulder the load for at least one game. Mariota played in three games for the Commanders last season, throwing for 364 yards and four touchdowns.
It’ll be interesting to see if this is a short-term issue for Daniels or something that lingers beyond Week 3, as it could have a significant impact on the season if the promising young quarterback remains sidelined.
