Cowboys owner Jerry Jones calls it ‘ridiculous’ that Mike McCarthy won’t return

The Dallas Cowboys are going through one of their toughest seasons in recent memory. Not only did the team lose star quarterback Dak Prescott to a potentially career-altering injury, but the storied franchise simply hasn’t been able to show any sign of progress during this 2020 NFL campaign.

With the Cowboys headed for a very disappointing end to the season, the obvious fall guy for their struggles is head coach Mike McCarthy. However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that his head coach is returning for the 2021 season, via Pro Football Talk.

“I’ve been known to stick with these guys in early troubled times coaching,” Jones said, via Jori Epstein of USA Today. “I don’t understand frankly how so ridiculous this conversation is in terms of ever having any meat of the bone.”

Although Jones gives McCarthy his vote of confidence, there’s no telling what the future holds for their first-year head coach or the franchise for that matter with Prescott on the mend.

Dallas came into the 2020 season with high hopes of being the team to beat in the NFC. That didn’t even come close to happening with the team limping their way to a losing season with only four wins on the year thus far.

The real question moving forward is what will the team do in preparation for next season. There will be a lot of questions to address along with whether McCarthy is the right leader on the sideline.
