Cowboys QB Dak Prescott still adamant about new contract

Throughout the last several months, the Dallas Cowboys have had the cloud of star quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract hanging over the head of the franchise.

The Cowboys made one significant decision regarding that situation by placing him under the franchise tag for the 2020 season, but he has yet to sign the tender. On top of that, it’s now being reported that he isn’t participating in the team’s organized virtual workouts from home, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Prescott will not take part in the stay-at-home preparations for the 2020 season, unless and until he has a long-term deal.

It has become quite abundantly clear that Prescott is eyeing a long-term extension with Dallas. The two sides have yet to make significant traction in their contract discussion, which has made this matter that much more complicated.

Prescott has held firm on his desire to garner if not the highest-paid deals in the league among the top contracts. The Cowboys haven’t moved fully into that position, which has left some distance between them in the conversations.

There is still plenty of time for both sides to work things out well ahead of the July 15 deadline, but the fact that Prescott has fully entrenched himself in this position could make the situation tougher to navigate through.

Only time will tell if two sides will agree on a new lucrative deal this offseason that will keep the star quarterback in Dallas for the long haul.
