Dallas Cowboys: Amari Cooper Likely to Miss Remainder of Preseason

The Dallas Cowboys announced that Amari Cooper will most likely not play in any of the team’s preseason games due to a heel injury he suffered in Oxnard, California. However, the team believes Cooper can return to practice by later this week.

Cooper has missed practice since August 6 and Dallas will not risk that he misses the regular-season opener on September 8 versus the New York Giants by having him play in Saturday’s preseason game with the Houston Texans.

Dallas does not play starters in the final game of the preseason which this year is against Tampa Bay on August 29.

Cooper has a type of plantar fasciitis but said it was improving. When he was asked if he could play effectively during a regular season with his heel the way it is, Cooper indicated he could and added that he has played with several foot injuries.

The Cowboys are hoping the heel issue takes care of itself through rehab prior to the season-opener with the Giants. Cooper said while he attended Alabama he had problems with plantar fasciitis.

Cooper has run routes and said the pain level in his foot was currently three when asked what the level was on a scale of 1 to 10.

Dallas acquired the talent Pro-Bowl wide receiver last October in a trade with Oakland. In nine games last season with Dallas following his trade, Cooper caught 53 passes for 726 yards and six touchdowns.
