Daniel Jones is the new starting QB of the Giants

The New York Giants have quickly fallen into familiar territory after dropping their first two games of the season.
This had brought forth much uncertainty concerning the long-term future of veteran quarterback Eli Manning as the team’s starter. The Giants officially made the change to rookie Daniel Jones to get the start for Week 3 action against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

The team announced on Tuesday morning that Jones will make his first NFL start this weekend. The first-round pick looked good during his preseason work and the quick move to put him in the starting lineup makes one wonder if he would have been the starter in Week One if not for the Giants’ sentimental attachment to Manning.

The writing had been on the wall after Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills as head coach Pat Shurmur voiced uncertainty about who would be the starter moving forward. It also didn’t help that Manning was struggling to provide any stable play under center as he struggled to move the offense down the field.

Meanwhile, the team has remained high on Jones as he had shown some promise in the preseason. This is a chance for him to take full control of the office while displaying that he can be the Giants’ next franchise quarterback.

Manning will likely sideline in a mentor role to Jones while the rumor mill should heat up with talk that he could be a possible trade piece prior to the trade deadline. In a season where many teams are looking for an heir apparent quarterback, the Giants could be making a smart move by deciding to put their faith in Jones.
