Derek Carr’s NFL free agency expected to be a ‘long process’

After nine seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr is experiencing free agency for the first time.

It’s an opportunity that he has quickly taken full advantage of that has begun with visiting with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. His brother, David Carr, provided some insight by stating that the former Raiders quarterback will take his time through the process.

“He had a great trip, but it’s honestly going to be a long process, though,” Carr said in an interview with NFL Network via ESPN. “He really only has the Saints, the Raiders and the Jets to kind of compare those three places. So he wants to do his due diligence and see as many places as he can to get a feel for what the best place for him will be.”

Derek Carr is soaking in what may be the last time he tests the open market in his career. Beyond that, the decision he makes will impact how the next chapter plays out ahead.

He has the unique opportunity to gauge the market a month before free agency begins, allowing him to see what each interested team has to offer. Carr is a proven commodity that could be the missing piece for the Jets or Saints.

It’s likely that the Jets will see what happens with Aaron Rodgers first before making a move. Meanwhile, the Saints have remained interested in Carr since the franchise met with him before he was released by the Raiders.

Time will tell what unfolds for the veteran quarterback in his next NFL stop.
