Eagles expected to name Vic Fangio new defensive coordinator
Nearly two weeks after the Miami Dolphins fell to a disappointing playoff exit, the franchise mutually parted ways with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
However, it didn’t take him long to find a new position, as he’s expected to take over that role with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fangio previously worked as a consultant for the Eagles for the last two weeks last year in preparation for Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 65-year-old is facing plenty of pressure to turn things around quickly after the Eagles’ disappointing collapse. Philadelphia began the season 10-1 but then lost six out of its last seven games.
Philadelphia’s downfall led to the chatter around head coach Nick Sirianni’s job security, resulting in the firing of defensive coordinator Sean Desai, defensive play-caller Matt Patricia and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson.

There is plenty of pressure for Fangio to step in and significantly help the Eagles improve on the defensive side of the ball. Under Fangio, the Dolphins ranked 10th in most yards allowed in the 2023 season while finishing third with 56 sacks.
Miami also allowed more than 400 offensive yards in four out of their last six games, which resulted in losses in each instance.
Fangio likely won’t have much wiggle room as the Eagles are hoping to bounce back into Super Bowl contention next season. The pressure will be on the coaching staff to help guide the franchise back toward sustained success or much change could lie ahead in Philadelphia.
