Eagles QB Nick Foles will miss team’s preseason opener

In the last three days, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has been out of practice dealing with a muscle spasms in his neck/trapezius area on his throwing side.

According to Tim McManus of ESPN, Foles has downplayed the significance of the injury while voicing that the team is taking the precautionary approach with the situation.

“It’s not a big deal,” Foles said after Tuesday’s session. “We’re just being smart.”

The 29-year-old will not play in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers as he has been unable to practice this entire week leading up to the game. There doesn’t appear to be any high level of concern as the team will also be without Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz for the contest as he hasn’t practiced over the last few days.

With both players out of the mix, the Eagles will lean on both Nate Sudfeld and Joe Callahan to take snaps under center against the Steelers. It is a situation that the team is taking the precautionary approach, especially with the start of the season being about a month away.

There is still no certainty if Wentz will be on the field to start the 2018 campaign, but Foles is expected to be ready well before then. He could be in line to have a start or two to begin the regular season if Wentz isn’t exactly ready to give it go. In the meantime, there isn’t much for the Eagles to worry about at this point time with their quarterback situation.
