Eagles sticking with Jalen Hurts as starting QB for 2022

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a disappointing playoff exit after falling to the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round.

The early postseason exit has shifted the attention to second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts’ future under center. General manager Howie Roseman quieted the noise on Wednesday voicing that he expects Hurts to be the starter for the 2022 season.

“We’ve got to do whatever we can to continue to help him develop. And how do we do that? By surrounding him with really good players,” Roseman said via ESPN. “Players continue to grow — that’s a huge part of developing. They grow. How they are in their second year is not how they’re going to be in Year 4, 5, 6, 7, and they’re also products of the people around them. That’s on us to continue to build this team.”

Roseman shows the organization’s great confidence in Hurts’ development. In his first full year as the starter, Hurts grew as a passer while remaining a strong factor with his legs.

The Oklahoma product has much room for growth as a quarterback that leaves the Eagles quite optimistic. The hope is that he can become a better pocket passer, allowing him to be a more effective runner.

He’s coming off leading the team with 784 rushing yards with 10 rushing touchdowns. Hurts passed for 3,144 yards with 16 touchdown passes to nine interceptions. The 2022 season will likely feature him garnering more control of the offense, especially if he becomes a more efficient and effective passer.
