Falcons’ Michael Penix Jr. Breaks Silence After Jalon Walker’s Devastating Injury
The Atlanta Falcons suffered a significant loss with pass rusher Jalon Walker set to miss the 2026 season due to a torn ACL.
The injury reportedly occurred on Tuesday near the tail
end of practice during an 11-on-11 play. He was immediately attended to by trainers and carted off the field.
Walker is coming off a productive rookie campaign, where he had 5.5 sacks. The Falcons were hoping to depend on him as a significant part of their pass rush.
“I know that he’s a strong individual,” quarterback Michael Penix Jr. said Wednesday via ESPN. “He’s going to get through it.”
His absence leaves a major void, putting more pressure on their defensive front. James Pearce Jr. dealt with legal issues as he was arrested on domestic violence charges back in February.
The charges were dropped if he stayed out of trouble for one year, but it doesn’t put him out of the woods yet, as the NFL could still suspend him if it finds that he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.
Atlanta could be in a tough position without a viable pass rush if Pearce is suspended. The team did sign Samson Ebukam and Cameron Thomas for depth this offseason.

The Falcons are hoping to take a significant step toward playoff contention this upcoming season, which could see a change under center with the quarterback competition between Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa.
Atlanta is coming off finishing with an 8-9 record, falling just short of securing the NFC South division title.
