Falcons newcomer Todd Gurley finally takes, passes physical
Since the Atlanta Falcons were pegged to sign former Los Angeles Rams star running back Todd Gurley, there has been lingering chatter around his health.
Much of that centered on the lack of his physical to complete the deal with the team. Those questions have come to an end after Gurley finally got it done with the Falcons on Monday. (H/T Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk)
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Gurley was finally able to get to Atlanta and take a physical Monday. He passed it.
There had been concerns with Gurley’s health, mainly due to the long delay with his physical. That had seen some of the Falcons coaches express that they were unsure of where the star running back was at health-wise. The team tried to push that out of the limelight to avoid those concerns from becoming the underlying storyline around him.
Gurley’s tenure with the Rams was cut short due to injuries that prevented him from taking on a significant role within the offense. That saw him fall well short of 1,000 rushing yards while his workload was limited.
Los Angeles didn’t feel that he could provide the production expected with the massive contract that he had in place. That said, Gurley has the chance to prove himself with Atlanta to showcase that he can return to that production on a one-year deal.
The Falcons will continue to keep a close eye on him throughout the offseason as he will play a significant part in their offensive game plan in 2020.
