Former Eagles coach Doug Pederson takes Jaguars coaching job

After the entire debacle with Urban Meyer, the Jacksonville Jaguars are moving forward in a new direction.

ESPN is reporting that the Jaguars are hiring former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson to head the charge.

Doug Pederson, who won a Super Bowl with Philadelphia, has been hired as the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team announced Thursday.

Pederson is one year removed from his five-year stint with the Eagles, where he held a 42-37-1 record and reached the playoffs three times. It includes winning Super Bowl 52 over the New England Patriots.

He brings aboard a steady presence that the team has lacked at the position, dating back to Jack Del Rio’s tenure. Jacksonville is hoping to build its future around quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who struggled to find any consistency in his first campaign.

The Jaguars are optimistic that Pederson can help push Lawrence to take the next step in his maturation as an NFL quarterback. The decision to hire Pederson this early in the offseason allows him to settle in and help formulate the team to his liking with free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft laying ahead in the coming months.
