Former Packers coach Mike McCarthy already ‘receiving overtures’ from NFL teams
Since the Green Bay Packers made the decision to part ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, he has remained without a new job in the NFL.
There has been some traction that McCarthy will draw some interest around the league. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, this is a notion that has already seen him draw interest from several different teams.
Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, who was fired earlier this month, already is receiving overtures from NFL teams considering head-coaching changes, league sources told ESPN.
But it is uncertain at this point whether McCarthy will immediately return to the head-coaching ranks, according to source.
McCarthy is one of the most established coaches on the open market that has had much success throughout his head-coaching career with the Packers. This saw him hold a 125-77-2 in 13 seasons, along with a 10-8 mark in the postseason.
He has also helped the franchise win a Super Bowl while reaching the NFC Championship game four times. McCarthy should quickly draw interest should he be interested in coaching this upcoming season.
There are several intriguing openings around the league, such as the Cleveland Browns. This could potentially be the most intriguing landing spot for him. However, there isn’t any rush for him as he may not view this current landscape of openings to his desire.
Keep in mind that he is still getting paid for the 2019 season, which wouldn’t give him the financial incentive to move forward in finding another job. Nonetheless, it is clear he will have his options this upcoming offseason if he chooses to do so.
