Former Packers coach Mike McCarthy to meet with Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are moving closer and closer to parting ways with head coach Jason Garrett, which would officially open the most attractive coaching position in the NFL. Although the decision hasn’t been made just yet, the team is already doing their due diligence in finding a successor at head coach.

It appears the team is considering a number of different options at head coach with the most intriguing potentially being former Green Bay Packers coach, Mike McCarthy. According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, McCarthy will meet with the Cowboys.

Ever since the 2019 NFL regular season came to an end recently, McCarthy has been a popular name circulating around the league as he has been linked to a few different coaching vacancies. The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Carolina Panthers are all looking for a new head coach and have all inquired about McCarthy’s interest.

Of the four teams mentioned looking for a new head coach, the Cowboys have to be the most intriguing with a playoff-ready team needing the right leadership. Dallas has a franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott, a star running back in Ezekiel Elliott, and a primetime wide receiver in Amari Cooper to go along with a formidable defense.

Although the Browns have a lot of talent on both sides of the football on paper, Cleveland seems to be a bit of a mess and might not be able to compete with Jerry Jones if he’s truly ready to move on from Garrett. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out as McCarthy is arguably the most sought-after coach on the open market right now.
