He’s earned the reputation of being a player’s coach who should land another position with the Chargers or elsewhere.

It was believed that he had a shot at the New England Patriots opening after Bill Belichick was released. Instead, the Patriots chose to go the internal route and hire Jerod Mayo, who spent the last four years as the inside linebacker coach in New England.

Vrabel is one of several candidates that the Chargers are interviewing for the position. The team has spoken to Michigan football team head coach Jim Harbaugh twice.

Los Angeles is hoping to bring in the right coach who can help turn things around, especially after such a disappointing 2023 campaign. The Chargers have one of the league’s top young quarterbacks in Justin Herbert, who alone is an appealing piece to the puzzle that will attract head coach candidates.

Los Angeles possesses a talented roster on both sides of the ball, which makes the opening that much more intriguing. The Chargers have a franchise quarterback who could take the next leap, especially with the right head coach at the helm.
