Giannis Antetokounmpo remains ‘locked in’ amid uncertain future with Bucks

Over the last several weeks, to say things have been uneasy within the Milwaukee Bucks’ organization is an understatement.

Giannis Antetokounmpo sits at the forefront of the discussion, as his long-term future in Milwaukee appears to have a level of uncertainty tied to it.

The two-time league MVP attempted to quiet the chatter around him in his first time speaking to the media since suffering a right calf strain on Dec. 3.

He stated that he is “locked in” on getting his body healthy, but noted that his agent can discuss whatever he wants with the Bucks.

“If my agent is talking to the Bucks about it, he’s his own person. He can have any conversation he wants,” Antetokounmpo told reporters prior to Thursday’s game against the Toronto Raptors via ESPN.

“At the end of the day, I personally have not had the conversation with the Bucks. I’m still locked in, locked in on my teammates, most importantly locked in on me getting back healthy.”

His remarks aren’t exactly a vote of confidence about the prospects of him seeing the Bucks as his long-term future, but he also sidestepped the talk around him potentially exploring other NBA home options.

Milwaukee currently sits in a tough position, holding an 11-18 record after falling on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. The Bucks are 2.5 games out of the final play-in tournament spot and 5.5 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers for the sixth position that would avoid the play-in altogether.
