Giants and Redskins Clash This Week in NFC East

The NFC East is a tight race like most of the division in the NFL are. This week a win by the Washington Redskins over the New York Giants would tighten it up even more. You say “that can’t happen, can it?” New York looked unstoppable against the San Francisco 49ers a week ago. Surely hey will romp over a 3-3 Redskins team.

Maybe so, but here are two things to consider. One, Washington beat the Giants twice a year ago, a year the G-Men went on to win the Super Bowl while the Skins missed the playoffs. Two, both Giants losses this season have been to NFC East teams. So, with those two factors, Washington is sounding more and more like a good bet on Sunday.

Washington, with Robert Griffin III at quarterback is clearly better than they were a year ago. They’ve beaten a petty good Minnesota Vikings team a week ago. Do not sleep on the Redskins. The Giants have that nagging propensity to play like Super Bowl Champions in games they should probably lose, but then play like a middle of the pack team in games you think they should win. This makes them a risky bet this week.

Oddsmaker has Washington +6-115 or +215. The Giants are -6 -105 or -215. Over/under on the game is 49.5. We will predict that if the Giants win it is because the over wins. If the under wins, we like the Redskins. We are going to go with the Skins +6 and the under.

the Dallas Cowboys have a chance to take advantage of a Washington win and pull to within a half game of both the Redskins and Giants and move into a tie with the idle Philadelphia Eagles with a win over the struggling Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The Panthers game will be a good chance for Dallas to get something positive going again after a couple of big disappointments. Many feel the Cowboys outplayed the Baltimore Ravens a week ago but did themselves in with dropped passes and poor clock management.

Dallas is -2 -110  while Carolina is +2 -110. Over/under on this one is 45.5. We like the Cowboys -2 and the under in this one.

In other NFC East news this week, the Eagles have fired their defensive coordinator, Juan Castillo, in mid-season. That does not sound like a team heading in the right direction. But, sometimes a move like this ignites a team. So it will be interesting to see what happens there. One thing is for sure. Head Coach Andy Reid is clearly on the “hot seat”.
