Giants bring in rookie QB Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants swung for the fences in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft by trading back into the first round to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall selection.

The Giants expressed excitement that Dart could be the future franchise cornerstone under center.

“He’s in a really good spot where he can come in and he can sit behind a couple of veteran quarterbacks and learn and doesn’t have to be thrown out there right away,” Giants general manager Joe Schoen said via ESPN. “I think from a developmental standpoint and the ability to grow, I think it’s a perfect situation for a young quarterback.”

The Giants moved the 34th overall pick, the 99th overall selection, and a 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans to move up into the 25th overall spot.

Dart joins a loaded quarterback room that is already filled with offseason additions Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. The situation lines up potentially perfectly for the Ole Miss product to get time to develop before having the urgency to start right away to begin his NFL career.

New York is set to have either Wilson or Winston be the team’s starting quarterback to begin the 2025 season. Meanwhile, Dart will have the benefit of learning behind two veterans, who each have over a decade of experience in the NFL.

He is coming off a productive 2024 season that featured him recording 4,279 passing yards and 29 touchdown passes while guiding Ole Miss to a 10-3 record.
