Giants ‘highly unlikely’ to trade star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
The New York Giants have been at the center of a lot of speculation lately with all the trade rumors surrounding superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Over the past few weeks, Beckham seemed to be headed elsewhere with the Giants considering trading arguably their best player. The controversial yet talented wideout wants to get a lucrative and potentially historic contract extension before the 2018Â NFL season while also recently being in a video which put into question what he may be doing off the field.
Despite all of this swirling around the Big Apple, it appears Beckham may not be traded after all, according to NFL Insider Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.
It’s hard to imagine they would. And it remains “highly unlikely,” according to a highly placed team source. No one can rule out the possibility that they’d be blown away with an offer they can’t refuse. But trading him – at least for now – is clearly not something they want to do.
Although the Giants are “unlikely” trade him at this point, that could very well change as the 2018 NFL Draft draws near. New York’s asking price for Beckham’s services was rumored to be two first-round picks and if a team is willing to part with those assets before the draft, a trade may go down before the first pick is made or during the draft on April 27.
The Los Angeles Rams were looking like Beckham’s eventual destination with the team open to a deal for the perennial Pro Bowler. The Rams are in win-now mode as they have made abundantly clear during the NFL offseason with the additions of Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, Ndamukong Suh, and most recently, Brandin Cooks.
However, the acquisition of Cooks in a trade with the New England Patriots has ended their pursuit of Beckham. No other team has emerged as a potential candidate for a trade to land the superstar meaning he could be wearing a Giants uniform a little longer while continuing to make the team relevant in the NFC.
