Giants GM Sends Cautious Message on Malik Nabers’ Week 1 Status
New York Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers took the field for the first time since his serious knee injury last season after participating in the individual portion of a full-team practice on Wednesday.
Head coach John Harbaugh voiced optimism regarding Nabers’ recovery process, stating that he “looked good” on the practice field, but strayed away from giving a time frame for him to partake in a full practice.
General manager Joe Schoen wouldn’t commit to Nabers playing in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, but did say the team will take it step by step with their star wideout.
“We’ve got a really good plan for him,” Schoen said via ESPN. “The medical staff has a really good plan for him, and we’re going to always say listen to the patients. So, we’re going to see how he reacts. We got a good plan in place, so as long as everything goes as planned, we’ll listen to Malik and his body. And, again, hopefully he’ll be ready and we’ll see how it plays out. But no predictions right now, just because we have a long way to go. Still a lot of camp.”
It’s been an arduous road to recovery for Nabers, who tore his ACL in Week 4 of the 2025 season. Since then, he has undergone surgery for a full meniscus repair in October, which was followed up by another operation earlier this year to clean up scar tissue and eliminate some of the stiffness he was experiencing.

The Giants have continued to move cautiously with Nabers’ recovery, which may likely see him miss some, if not all, of the preseason as he works his way back into form.
