Giants part ways with veteran WR Brandon Marshall

After a forgettable season in which the storied NFL franchise won only three games, the New York Giants made a move on Thursday that many saw coming. Veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been released by the team.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Giants parted ways with Marshall due to a failed physical.

The New York Giants released Brandon Marshall after just one season Thursday. General manager Dave Gettleman said the veteran wide receiver had failed a physical.

Marshall spent only one season with the Giants. He played in the same stadium for the previous two with the New York Jets. The veteran wideout has bounced around the league quite a bit. His career includes stops with the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Jets, and Giants.

Marshall’s time with the New York franchise was forgettable, to say the least. Although, 34-year-old was highly productive with the Jets only two seasons ago. Marshall had racked up a career-high 14 touchdowns in green and white. However, his last two seasons may have marked the beginning of the end for the journeyman.

In five games with the Giants, Marshall caught only 18 passes on 33 targets for 154 yards. He went without a touchdown for the first time in his career. Marshall’s season came to an end due to an ankle injury which was eerily similar to Odell Beckham Jr’s season-ending injury suffered two games prior.

With Marshall now a free agent and an opening at wide receiver for New York, it’ll be interesting to see what direction these two sides go. The Giants could very well show interest in signing Dez Bryant who was recently released by the division rival Dallas Cowboys.
