Giants RB Saquon Barkley ready to follow the ‘Marshawn Lynch method’

The New York Giants with the second overall pick in this year’s draft made the selection of former Penn State standout running back Saquon Barkley.

Not only did this put Barkley in the position to be a key feature in the backfield for the Giants’ long-term plan, it also put a tremendous amount of money in his pocket that he has never had before. With that in mind, he has made it clear that he plans to be wise with his newfound riches by putting the right people around him and invest in the right things, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

“Once I realized when I declared for the NFL draft and kind of realized where I was going to be drafted, that was something I was like, ‘You know what? Kind of want to follow the Marshawn Lynch method. I don’t want to touch that,” Barkley said on the red carpet for the CC Sabathia Celebrity Softball Game on Thursday night. “I want to invest it, put it in the right people’s hands and learn as I continue to make investments. And just live off the endorsement deals.'”

This tremendously encouraging to hear given that he’s entering the league with the mindset to save the money that he makes. He had also added that he wants to mimic Lynch and Pro Bowl tight Rob Gronkowski in the manner of only spending the money that he makes off endorsements in his career.

The only notable purchase he has made so far was a new home for his family that helped him along the way. These comments should indicate that Barkley won’t be one of those many professional athletes that winds up broke running through their money in their career.

If anything this indicates that the Giants are bringing aboard a level-headed player that has his life together both on and off the field.
