Giants rookie Daniel Jones not paying attention to all the outside noise
Since being taken with the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft by the New York Giants, former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones has caught plenty of slack from their fan base.
This has extended over into his recent trip to Yankee Stadium to watch a game on Monday night where he was booed when it was brought to attention that he was in attendance. During an interview on the Rich Eisen Show, Jones voiced that he doesn’t pay any mind to that outside noise. (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk).
“I certainly don’t pay a whole lot of attention to it,†Jones said. “You’re aware of it. I’m focused on what we’re doing here and focused on trying to practice as well as I could these past six weeks and show some progress over these six weeks.â€
This lack of change from the Giants fan base shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as the team has one of the most passionate followings. This hatred tossed his way should remain the case until he’s able to prove on the field that he can lead the franchise to success.
There was plenty of desire from the fans to see them go in another direction by taking former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who wound up being taken 15th overall by the Washington Redskins. What this will all come down to is his play on the field and that will be the deciding factor on whether he can become beloved in New York or booed.
Until then, Jones may just use this as extra motivation to push him forward to prove the doubters wrong.
