Haason Reddick to make long-awaited debut for Jets in Week 8
Ahead of the 2024 NFL regular season, the New York Jets made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire one-time All-Pro linebacker Haason Reddick to give the team a boost on defense.
Although this move was a step in the right direction, it definitely upgraded the defense. The only problem was that Reddick forced his way out of Philadelphia because he wasn’t happy with how contract talks were going with the Eagles, making for a disgruntled star player who wanted to be compensated well.

This trade was a nightmare scenario for Reddick as he wanted to sign a new deal before making his debut with the Jets, leading to a lengthy and costly holdout for both sides. However, the team and the two-time Pro Bowler were finally able to come to terms on a deal, and as a result, he will make his debut for the Jets on Sunday against the division-rival New England Patriots, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.
Pro Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick, who reported to the team Monday after a lengthy contract holdout that included a trade request, will play Sunday against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
Ahead of Reddick’s debut with the team, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich talked about what he brings to the team via ESPN.
“(He) had a good week of work with us,” interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Friday, confirming Reddick’s status. “He’s just such an experienced guy. He’s been in so many systems, so to pick up ours wasn’t super difficult for him.
“He really put in the extra time to learn it and, physically, he looked good out there. So, we’re excited about what he’ll contribute to our rush group.”
It remains to be seen if Reddick’s presence on the gridiron is a game-changer for the Jets, as the team desperately needs to turn things around after four straight losses.
