Jadeveon Clowney ready to prove he’s ‘still an elite player’ with Browns

Since the start of the offseason, Jadeveon Clowney remained floating around in free agency without a new deal. The former Pro Bowl pass rusher has resolved that situation as he has inked a one-year deal worth up $10 million with the Cleveland Browns. In his first interview with reporters following the move, Clowney voiced that he believes he is still an elite talent. (H/T Keith Britton of 92.3 The Fan)

“For sure. I just want to show I’m still an elite player,” Clowney said. “Prove I can still dominate . . . gonna see this season.”

Clowney holds a proven resume that showcases he is one of the league’s best pass rushers when healthy. However, his problem has been staying on the field as injuries have heavily impacted his availability and production.

In his lone season with the Tennessee Titans last year, Clowney tallied zero sacks with 19 total tackles in eight games. His campaign was cut short due to a torn meniscus that required surgery.

The 28-year-old is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2021 season to back up his words with his play. Clowney signed a one-year prove-it deal essentially to earn another lucrative contract potentially.

Much of that will depend on him showing that he’s past his injury woes. There is plenty on the table in 2021, but it’s all set for him to re-establish himself as one of the game’s top talents.

Meanwhile, the Browns hope that he and Miles Garrett can form a tandem that can anchor their defense for years to come.
