Jahmyr Gibbs’ Three-Word Answer Adds Intrigue to Lions Hold-In
Detroit Lions star running back Jahmyr Gibbs remains off the practice field as he continues his hold-in in hopes of securing a new, lucrative deal with the franchise.
Gibbs has attended training camp, but hasn’t participated for nearly a week while he waits to secure the contract extension he desires.
The three-time Pro Bowler didn’t speak with reporters during a media session, but was briefly approached by a few, to whom he said, “time will tell” about when he will be back on the practice field.
Gibbs also didn’t lay out whether the new deal would be the only way he returns to practice. At the same time, there isn’t any rush on his behalf to get in the mix, as he has seen a few of his peers this offseason secure lucrative extensions.
The Atlanta Falcons rewarded their star running back Bijan Robinson with a much-deserved historic deal as he signed a three-year contract extension worth up to $75 million. Robinson’s contract base is $66.75 million, making his $22.25 million average per season the highest at his position, surpassing Saquon Barkley’s $20.6 million.

That will likely raise the bar a bit for negotiations, as Gibbs has produced at a torrid pace through his first three seasons and holds the league record for most touchdowns over that span (49).
Gibbs is clearly a focal point in the Lions’ offensive identity and a key piece of the core and future. It is imperative that Detroit give him the lucrative deal he wants before the 2026 season.
