Jerry Jones continues to stick by Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy

During an interview on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, team owner Jerry Jones chose not to address McCarthy’s status.

“I’m not going to get into any conversations that I’ve had with anybody relative to anything to do with the staff,” Jones said via ESPN. “I understand the interest in it, but there’s nothing compelling me. I’ve got everyone under contract that I want to have under contract. And so that’s where we are.”

Jones’ comments show that he remains strongly committed to McCarthy as the long-term answer. He likely won’t want to move off him, especially after only two seasons.

In his first two years with the Cowboys, he holds an 18-15 regular-season record, with his first playoff appearance in the 2021 postseason. His first saw the franchise marred with injuries. McCarthy is currently inked through the 2024 season.

Dallas took a significant step forward in 2021, securing their first NFC East division title in three years. However, the Cowboys’ inability to make a deep run in the playoffs has generated tremendous criticism toward the franchise.

Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott has become a primary target as he struggled against the 49ers. Prescott’s decision-making late in the game has drawn heavy criticism.

The Cowboys will likely look to make notable changes to push their way toward vying for the Super Bowl.
