Jerry Jones Sounds Off on Cowboys’ Costly Mistakes in Crushing Ravens Loss
The Dallas Cowboys are days removed from a crushing Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, which has given owner Jerry Jones more than enough time to assess why his team fell short.
During his weekly appearance on his radio show on Tuesday, Jones said that coaching management’s decision-making led to the Cowboys’ frustrating downfall in Brazil on Sunday.
“There is no explanation you’re satisfied with. None,” Jones said via ESPN. “Let’s be sure that we all understand that. They [coaches] don’t have one that they’re satisfied with. We made mistakes during that time. There’s no question about it. So there is no explanation. But there’s an evaluation of how not to make the same mistakes again.”
Although the Ravens did enough to secure the thrilling 27-24 win over the Cowboys, there were plenty of late-game mistakes that led to that result.
Trailing 31-28, Dallas had first and goal with the ball at the 2-yard line with 23 seconds left. It was followed by Dak Prescott throwing an incomplete pass in the end zone.
That was followed by a false start penalty, and Prescott scrambled to the five-yard line, forcing the Cowboys to call their final timeout with 14 seconds remaining. On third and goal, Prescott was instructed to either throw the ball to George Pickens or throw the ball away, and he didn’t waste any time throwing it away.

Dallas tied the game, but on the ensuing kickoff, Brandon Aubrey kicked the ball through the end zone, so no additional time was taken off the clock. That gave the Ravens one last play, on which Lamar Jackson completed a 27-yard pass to Zay Flowers and called a timeout with one second left, leaving the door open to a game-winning 56-yard field goal by kicker Tyler Loop.
It is an entirely frustrating situation for the Cowboys, but all they can do at this point is learn from their mistakes and move forward.
