Jets’ Aaron Rodgers not sure if he’ll play next season
As the New York Jets move through a disappointing 2024 season that has fallen well short of playoff contention, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ future beyond this year has come into question.
It has led to reports sprouting that Rodgers has a desire to extend his future first-ballot of Hall of Fame career at least one more year. However, that speculation has guided the conversation toward the four-time league MVP potentially wanting to play elsewhere if he continues to play in 2025.
In light of that, Rodgers has finally addressed the discussion during his latest appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, stating that if he were to play another campaign the Jets would be his first choice.
“I don’t even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option,” Rodgers said via ESPN.
He also added that his playing future will hinge on how his body feels and whether the Jets want him back for another season. There are plenty of variables in play with this situation, which leaves Rodgers’ tenure ahead in New York in a bit of a murky spot.

Predictably due to returning from a torn Achilles tendon, his play hasn’t been up to par with what’s come to expect from him. Instead, he’s moving through one of his toughest years where he’s looked like an aging quarterback that isn’t what he once was.
Meanwhile, the Jets part of the equation jumbles up Rodgers’ future as the team needs to find their next head coach and there is no certainty that the organization wants that next hire to have the 40-year-old as the starting quarterback in 2025.
