Jets corner Trumaine Johnson ‘sidelined indefinitely’ with hamstring injury

In the weeks ahead of the 2019 season, the New York Jets have plenty of optimism concerning their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

However, this has already taken a bit of a hit as veteran cornerback Trumaine Johnson looks to be out of the lineup indefinitely due to a hamstring injury that he suffered during Sunday’s practice, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

New York Jets cornerback Trumaine Johnson will be sidelined indefinitely after injuring a hamstring Sunday in practice, a potentially crushing blow to an already-thin position.

Since making the move to join the Jets last offseason, Johnson has become their top cornerback option behind his steady play. He hasn’t been a standout player at his position, but he has brought to the table stability to that spot on the roster.

Johnson’s absence may not test their secondary in the early goings of the 2019 season if he’s unable to give it a go. Behind him, there is much inexperience at the position as the other options are Darryl Roberts, Kyron Brown, and Brian Poole that could see them be challenged at a steeper level.

What may work in Johnson’s favor is that there is still nearly a month to go before the start of next season. This may be more than enough time for him to get the rest he needs to get back on track. In the meantime, it’s a situation the Jets will look to monitor closely over the next few weeks leading up to the regular season.
