Jim Harbaugh Puts Justin Herbert on Notice as Chargers’ Struggles Continue
The Los Angeles Chargers fell to another crushing 24-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills, leading to more criticism of quarterback Justin Herbert.
The winless Chargers have struggled mightily to find their way offensively, with Herbert’s lackluster performance front and center. Head coach Jim Harbaugh had stern public words for his quarterback ahead of Week 4 action on the road against the Seattle Seahawks.
“Be better. Be better,” Harbaugh said of Herbert’s decision-making via ESPN. “And that drives Justin, that drives me, that drives his position coach, that drives Mike [McDaniel], the coordinator. I mean, drives us all.”
Herbert looked anything but sharp against the Bills as he finished with 226 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception. He struggled to play with consistency, as he could have had three interceptions if Bills defenders didn’t drop two of them.
The Chargers entered the season with plenty of optimism that their offense would be a strong point of their team’s identity. Instead, Los Angeles has struggled under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, becoming the focal point of criticism.

Through the first three games, the Chargers rank 29th with 14.7 points per game and 21st in passing.
Herbert has 627 passing yards, three touchdowns, four interceptions, and holds a 73.4 passer rating.
He has also been sacked eight times, failed to eclipse more than 230 passing yards in any game, and thrown an interception in each contest. If the Chargers hope to bounce back from their early-season hole, they will need to start by turning things around with Herbert and the offense.
