John Harbaugh reacts to becoming new Giants head coach

After days of negotiation, the New York Giants have secured John Harbaugh as their next head coach on a five-year deal.

Harbaugh expressed his excitement for his next opportunity to lead the Giants.

“This is the New York Giants,” Harbaugh said via ESPN. “I’m proud and honored to be the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families. But most of all, I can’t wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together.”

Following the Baltimore Ravens’ parting ways with Harbaugh after 18 seasons, the Giants quickly pursued him for their open vacancy. It didn’t take long for the two sides to ramp up into contract talks to get him as the next head coach.

“We are proud to name John Harbaugh as the next head coach of the New York Giants,” team president John Mara said in a Saturday night news release, announcing the contract. “(General manager) Joe Schoen presented us an outstanding group of candidates, which allowed us to be deliberate and confident in this decision.

“Through numerous conversations, John consistently stood out for his conviction and vision for leading a winning organization, and we welcome him and his family to the Giants.”

The Giants hope Harbaugh brings the stability the franchise has been lacking for several years. New York holds a 7-27 record over the last two seasons, but possesses a young roster that can be developed and retooled into a promising situation.
