Jonathan Taylor appears ready to resume NFL career with Colts

Ahead of the 2023 NFL season, things got ugly between star running back Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts, especially with longtime owner Jim Irsay, due to the 24-year-old wanting a new contract.

As arguably one of the best running backs in the league, Taylor had a case to ask for a deal from the Colts, but Irsay wasn’t having it, which led to a trade demand from the All-Pro. Irsay was livid about the trade request and let it be known that it wouldn’t happen, leading to Taylor being adamant about wanting to leave Indianapolis.

Fast forward to Week 5 of the season, Taylor appears ready to get back on the field for the Colts even though he demanded a trade a few weeks earlier. Taylor said the following leading up to Week 5’s showdown with the Tennessee Titans via ESPN.

“I’m here right now,” he said.

Taylor added, “I don’t think it matters if I’m saying I’m committed or not, because I’m here. If somebody wasn’t committed, they wouldn’t be here. And right now, I’m here, and my No. 1 goal is to attack this first practice. It’s been over 290 days, I believe.”

Taylor is anxious to get back to work and put the trade request behind him for the time being, and the Colts could use him with the AFC South being winnable this season.

“I’m not here to get into any contract things,” he said. “Those were over the course of the offseason, but the season is here. We’ve got the Tennessee Titans on the clock. Division matchup. What are you going to do?”

Only time will tell how things pan out between Taylor and the Colts, but Indy can definitely benefit from having him back on the field.
