Jordan Love won’t participate in Packers training camp without deal

With training camp ramping up around the league, the focus with the Green Bay Packers has centered on rising star quarterback Jordan Love’s contract situation.

Love is reportedly working toward a historic extension that will keep him in Green Bay for the foreseeable future. However, he isn’t expected to participate in training camp until his new deal is finalized.

“We completely understand where he’s coming from,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said via ESPN.

Love has been around the team in meetings and other training camp activities but has yet to participate in practice. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as Love is awaiting a massive extension that could potentially be the biggest in league history.

The Packers appear to be growingly confident that they can potentially work out a new one with Love in the coming days.

“Yeah, I think so, but again, you never know, Gutekunst said. “We’re working really hard to get that done. At the same time, the thing I have confidence in is we both want the same thing.”

In his first full campaign as the starting quarterback, Love proved that he can lead the franchise toward sustained success. In the wake of Aaron Rodgers’ departure, he finished seventh with 4,159 passing yards, second with 32 passing touchdowns, ninth with a 62.1 quarterback rating, and held a 96.1 passer rating.

Love guided the Packers to a wild card playoff berth and an impressive wild card round road win over the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 behind three touchdown passes, 272 passing yards and held a 157.2 passer rating.

Love nearly pushed Green Bay past the San Francisco 49ers in the division round, but fell just short. The Packers have clearly seen enough to commit to him in the long-term future, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his lofty contract extension.
