Justin Fields: ‘Sky is the limit’ for the Jets

Quarterback Justin Fields is at the onset of his first year with the New York Jets.

It brings forth a new opportunity to establish himself as a legitimate NFL starter while cementing his future in New York. Fields took a step forward by voicing that he believes he could thrive with the Jets in 2025.

“I think I can be great,” Fields said Thursday after the Jets’ fifth OTA practice via ESPN. “That’s been the goal for me my whole life, my whole career. I think the sky’s the limit for this team, for this offense, but we do have a long way to go.”

The Jets are moving all in with Fields as he will have every chance to prove that he can become the franchise cornerstone under center. Meanwhile, New York secured him under a two-year, $40 million deal that leaves the window open for the organization to move past him quickly if things don’t pan out as hoped.

The pressure is on Fields to showcase that he can be the long-term answer that the Jets can build their future around.

First-year offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand voiced high praise toward Fields, touting his physical talent while underlining his encouraging play in training camp.

“He’s obviously a physically talented player,” Engstrand said. “Everybody talks about the running — well, the guy’s got an arm, too, and he does a great job with that.

“Mentally, he’s phenomenal. He’s been absolutely phenomenal so far, and we expect more out of that. There’s just a lot of things that you can do with that type of player that’s going to put stress on a defense and make that defensive coordinator stay up late at night as we get going into this thing.”

The 2025 season could be Fields’ breakout season to finally find his place in the league.
