Keenan Allen: Chargers QB Justin Herbert ‘going to keep getting better’

The Los Angeles Chargers are heading into the 2021 season with plenty of promise toward a playoff push.

Much of which is fueled by second-year quarterback Justin Herbert taking another significant step forward. Star wide receiver Keenan Allen further amped the dialogue by voicing he believes the Oregon product will continue to get better.

“Just to keep getting better,” Allen said of his expectations, via Fernando Ramirez of SI.com. “It’s Justin Herbert’s second year, so he’s going to keep getting better — more experience, more knowledge, and better feel for the game.”

The hype around Herbet holds much reason for optimism. This is due to him blowing well beyond the expectation from his rookie campaign. The 23-year-old won the 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year award after recording 4,336 passing yards on a 66.6% completion rate. As well as that, he had 31 touchdown passes to 10 interceptions and a 98.3 passer rating in 15 starts.

Herbert will have every opportunity to take greater command of the Chargers offense as the centerpiece. Allen will play a significant part in the passing game as he remains one of the league’s best receivers.

He’s coming off recording 100 receptions for 992 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games played. It marked the third time in the last four seasons he’s notched at least 100 catches and more than 95 receptions over the previous four straight campaigns.

The table is set for Herbert to put forth another highly productive campaign. It may lead to a serious push toward the playoffs.
