Kenny Pickett believes he ‘handled’ Steelers situation correctly

After spending his first two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Kenny Pickett is set to begin his third campaign with a fresh start with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The change in scenery is something that Kenny Pickett believes that he managed the situation as best as he could.

“I think the communication is what it is. It was behind closed doors. I’m confident in the way that I handled it. I handled it the way I should have handled it,” Pickett said at his introductory news conference Monday via ESPN. “I’m excited to be here. It worked out so well that Philly was the place I ended up landing in. Everything happens for a reason and I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”

The 25-year-old saw his NFL path quickly change after the Steelers signed former Pro Bowler Russell Wilson in free agency. Pittsburgh wasted little time in moving Pickett along. He went with a 2024 fourth-round pick in exchange for a 2024 third-round selection and two seventh-round picks.

Pickett reportedly didn’t react well to the Wilson acquisition, leading the Steelers to trade him. He struggled to find consistency over his two seasons, posting a 14-10 record while holding a 63 percent completion rate along with 13 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions.

He now enters a situation where he will serve as the primary backup to Jalen Hurts. It will be a chance for him to learn and grow while potentially building his stock back up to earn another starting job elsewhere down the line.
