Kyle Shanahan Gives Candid Update on Nick Bosa’s Injury Timeline
The San Francisco 49ers are set to be without star defensive end Nick Bosa for multiple weeks due to a calf injury that he suffered in practice on Thursday.
The 49ers are leaning toward not placing him on injured reserve, but the team anticipates being without him for a few games.
“It’s the discussion,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said via ESPN. “[Bosa’s] right there at that point along with a couple other guys. They’re all in the same boat. Because of the number we have on it, we won’t be able to do all of them. We’ve got to decide and we’re just trying to guess which ones will go longer, which ones have the chances of being sooner. It’s just a guess. They’re all really close to the same boat, so we got to decide that by tomorrow at 1.”
His absence is a significant blow to the 49ers’ pass rush as he remains a huge factor. He headed into this season after missing most of last year due to a torn ACL.

The 49ers have already been ravaged by injuries this season, as defensive tackle C.J. West was placed on the injured reserve last week due to a knee issue. Defensive end Sam Okuayinonu was lost for the season due to a foot injury, and tackle Alfred Collins is on the injured reserve because of a patellar tendon injury.
San Francisco managed to inch past the Arizona Cardinals 36-30 in Week action, but it becomes an even more daunting task to continue to thrive without key factors in play.
