Matthew Stafford secures future with the Rams

After weeks of uncertainty surrounding star quarterback Matthew Stafford’s future, the Los Angeles Rams have secured his return for the 2025 season on a restructured contract.

The move came several days after the team gave Stafford and his agent permission to talk with other teams to gauge the quarterback market. He had reportedly worked toward “common ground” on a new contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Stafford also spoke with the New York Giants, which heightened the notion that he could have played in a last snap in a Rams uniform. However, the two sides agreed on a reworked contract for the 2025 campaign.

Since joining the Rams, Stafford has experienced sustained success, reaching the playoffs three times in four years, highlighted by leading the franchise to its second championship and his first.

Stafford is coming off leading the Rams to capture the NFC West division title while recording 3,762 passing yards with 20 touchdowns to eight interceptions and a 93.7 passer rating.

He followed that by guiding the Rams to a wildcard playoff win over the Minnesota Vikings and fell just shy of upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. In the two games, he notched 533 passing yards and four touchdown passes to zero interceptions and a 105.0 passer rating.

Stafford’s return signifies the franchise’s commitment to run it back toward possible Super Bowl contention.

Immediately following the return of their star quarterback, the front office was busy with inking left tackle Alaric Jackson to a three-year, $57 million deal.
