Mike Daniels Signed with Detroit Lions Because of Coach Patricia

On Sunday, defensive tackle Mike Daniels told the media that 13 teams had been in touch with him. He was in need of a new team after the Green Bay Packers suddenly released him. However, it was the Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia that convinced him to join the Lions after just saying hello.

Mike Daniels, when asked the reason he signed with Detroit, said it was coach Patricia. The defensive tackle called Patricia a genius. Adding that Patricia understands the game, is aware of what it takes and therefore being able to play for a football coach like that means everything.

Mike Daniels continued by saying he was attempting to be somewhat restrained due to being so excited and if he were able to do a backflip he would do so, but he cannot.

The defensive lineman said that was actually happy he had been cut by Green Bay so he could play at this time for Patricia. Daniels said thanks to the Packers he has the opportunity to play for a football genius.

On Friday, Daniels inked a deal for one-year with Detroit. An NFL source said the deal is for $9.1 million and includes guaranteed money of $7.8 million.

Daniels has 29 quarterback sacks, three recovered fumbles and two forced fumbles during his career. The former standout with the Iowa Hawkeyes played in the Pro Bowl in 2017. Daniels joined the Packers in 2012 out of Iowa and played seven seasons with Green Bay prior to his release.
