New York Giants ‘opened talks’ with Odell Beckham Jr. on contract extension

In the last few weeks, the New York Giants have become more vocal in their efforts in inking Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a new lucrative deal.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the Giants have decided to engage in contract discussion with Beckham Jr. over the last couple of days.

The New York Giants opened talks about a new contract with star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. earlier this week, a source told ESPN.

Beckham Jr. is currently in the fifth-year option of his deal that has him on pace to hit the open market next March where he could fetch a huge deal. The Giants have remained firm throughout the process that the team has a strong desire to keep the 25-year-old on board for the long haul, but things hadn’t become serious over the last few months.

However, Beckham Jr. has shown a tremendous amount of progress in his recovery from a surgically-repaired ankle while he has continued to remain a full participant in team activities this offseason despite his contract situation. It has all led to Giants ramping up their efforts toward keeping Beckham Jr. for the long haul a new lucrative deal.

When healthy, he has proven to be one of the league’s best talents at his position that saw him become the first player in NFL history to notch at least 90 catches for 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons. It may just be a matter of time before a new contract is worked out between both sides.
