NFL power rankings: AFC going into training camp

16. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are actively tanking. It’s hard to see anybody having a tougher year unless Grdner Minshew really shines in his first year as a full-time starter.

15. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals have Joe Burrow and what should be a fun offense. The problem is the division is really tough, and the defense is nowhere near ready to stop decent offenses.

14. New York Jets

The Jets could make a good argument for being higher than this. However, Adam Gase remains involved and until Sam Darnold proves something, he’s just another guy.

13. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins were incredibly productive this offseason and landed Tua Tagovailoa in the draft. If the former Alabama Crimson Tide product is good, the Dolphins are frisky.

12. Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas gets bottom-billing in the AFC West because of the defense and Derek Carr. Carr doesn’t scare any opposing defense and the Raiders will struggle to stop the offenses in their division.

11. Los Angeles Chargers

This hinges largely on Justin Herbert and Tyrod Taylor. If either are productive, the Chargers are a playoff team. However, that’s a huge leap of faith.

10. New England Patriots

Bill Belichick keeps the Patriots in contention for a playoff berth, but this team is limited all over the roster.

9. Houston Texans

This is where yo get ranked when Deshaun Watson is terrific but everything around him is a faming tire fire.

8. Cleveland Browns

Who knows with the Browns? They could rebound and be really good, or Baker Mayfield could throw another 21 interceptions and Cleveland could be debating whether to pick up his fifth-year option.

7. Indianapolis Colts

If you believe in Philip Rivers, this is a sure-fire playoff team. If you don’t, this could go sideways in a hurry.

6. Denver Broncos

The Broncos are compelling. Drew Lock went 4-1 in five starts last season, and Denver added a ton of firepower this offseason. We shall see.

5. Tennessee Titans

Can Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry be great again? We’re going to find out. They need to be.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are talented on both sides of the ball. The big question is whether Ben Roethlisberger can be great again, or if he’s shot.

3. Buffalo Bills

The Bills need Josh Allen to take one more legit step. He does that and Buffalo is a threat.

2. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens are loaded defensively and have the reigning MVP in Lamar Jackson. Great team.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. Plus the most explosive weapons in football and a nice defense. Good luck.
