NFL power rankings: Top 5 NFC contenders

Focusing on the NFC in these NFL power rankings, which five NFC teams are the most likely to win the Super Bowl?

5. Dallas Cowboys

We almost went with the Philadelphia Eagles here, but putting a team led by Jalen Hurts — potential and all — over Dak Prescott was tough to do. Dallas is one of the more talented teams in the conference, led by Prescott but also bolstered by corner Trevon Diggs, edge rushers Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, receivers CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, and an offensive line featuring left tackle Tyron Smith and guard Zack Martin.

4. San Francisco 49ers

What to do about quarterback? We still don’t know whether Trey Lance or veteran Jimmy Garoppolo will blunder center when the Niners visit the Chicago Bears in Week 1, but the rest of the team is loaded. Both the offense and defense have not only stars on each side, but legitimate First-Team All-Pros in edge rusher Nick Bosa, linebacker Fred Warner, receiver Deebo Samuel, left tackle Trent Williams and tight end George Kittle.

3. Green Bay Packers

Green Bay is going to look different this season, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Packers traded away star receiver Davante Adams for first- and second-round draft picks to the Las Vegas Raiders, and didn’t truly replace him. However, the defense should be loaded after bringing back all the main cogs from 2021, along with adding a pair of first-round picks into the mix. With a terrific defense, great offensive line and two-time reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers, the Pack remains dangerous.

2. Los Angeles Rams

The defending champs are second on the list, if only because it took everything going right for there Rams to win it all last year. Yes, Los Angeles has a bevy of talent on the roster, but is it the best team in football? Perhaps, but there is an argument to be made. Still, the Rams have weapons galore for quarterback Matthew Stafford and a defense anchored by interior force Aaron Donald and corner Jalen Ramsey. Not bad.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay has everything you could want. The best quarterback to ever roam the planet, a terrific offensive line, weapons on the perimeter and in the backfield, and a defense which can both cover and pressure. The big questions here are whether new head coach Todd Bowles can rise to the occasion, and if age doesn’t bring about a litany of injuries.
